Sudarsan Pattnaik created sand sculpture Santa Claus at Puri beach

Known for his topical works, the internationally well-known sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a huge Santa Claus sand sculpture. It has been made at the Puri beach in Odisha and that too with 5,400 roses.

The Santa Claus sculpture is 50 feet long and 28 feet wide and it took eight hours for carving and two days for preparation. The artist was helped by his sand art institute to complete the art installation.

The artist sculpted the sand Santa Claus with an installation of red roses and other flowers to reflect the message "Merry Christmas, Enjoy your Christmas with COVID guidelines".

"We all know the third wave of COVID-19 already started almost all over the World, so we created this sculpture where Santa is spreading a message of following COVID guidelines," said Pattnaik.

The artist received Padma Shri the fourth highest civilian award for his topical sand art in 2014.

Talking about his Santa Claus he said, "I hope this will set a new record in the record book.”

Pattnaik’s sand sculptures on Covid were appreciated by World Health Organisation (WHO).
