Jamnagar royal patriarch thanks Poland for evacuating Indians from Ukraine

Maharaja Jamsaheb Digvijaysinhji, Nawanagar State’s last ruler, with the Polish children who had been hosted by him from 1942 to 1946 when they sought to escape World War II

They say a good deed never goes to waste and sometime or the other the reward for that comes through! Take the case of the Polish Government helping Indian students to be evacuated from the war-torn zone of Ukraine which is in conflict with Russia.

The erstwhile princely State of Nawanagar-Jamnagar’s present royal family patriarch Shatrushalyasinhji Jadeja, reacting to this incident thanked the Government of Poland for their help.

Going back into history, it may be recalled that Maharaja Jamsaheb Digvijaysinhji, Jadeja’s father and the Nawanagar State’s last ruler, had from 1942 to 1946, played a host to more than 1,000 Polish children, many of them orphans, when they sought to escape World War II.

These children were accommodated by the Maharaja at Camp Balachadi, which was the seaside summer retreat of the then ruler of the princely State.

In a Press release the present holder of the ceremonial title Maharaja Jamsaheb said: “I am very happy for the way you, the government and the people of Poland have looked after the students from India, who were stuck in a horrible war-torn environment in Ukraine and returned safe and sound back to their homes in India. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Ambassador of Poland to India, the Government and the people of Poland for this wonderful effort.”

Describing the help rendered by the Polish authorities as the best birthday gift on Thursday, Jadeja remarked: “Today being my 83rd birthday, this is the best birthday present I could ever imagine.” He turned 83 according to the Hindu calendar.

The Polish Government is allowing Indians to be evacuated from Ukraine through their Government as part of the Operation Ganga launched by the Indian Government to bring back its citizens stranded in Ukraine safely.
