Ishan Kishan breaks Tendulkar’s record

India wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan has surpassed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s as the Indian batter with the highest number of runs as an opener in the first five ODI innings.

After scoring his second consecutive half century in the second ODI versus the West Indies on Saturday, Kishan has scored a total of 348 runs to overtake Tendulkar’s record of 321.

He has also equalled MS Dhoni’s record of scoring two consecutive fifties as a wicket-keeper batsman. Incidentally, Dhoni had also achieved the feat against the West Indies six years ago in 2017.

Although openers Kishan and Shubman Gill had given India a good start, putting on a quick 90 runs, the batting collapsed with the team being bundled out for 181 runs in 40.5 overs. The decision to rest both stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the match came a cropper as India lost the match to the West Indies.
