Hyderabad’s Lake Front Park set to showcase rare and exotic plants soon

The very popular tourist destination Hussainsagar in Hyderabad, Telangana, will now have an added attraction, the Lake Front Park. The place is already dotted with the State Secretariat, Ambedkar statue and Martyrs’ Memorial, and will now boast of a green area located next to Jalavihar.

A sum of Rs.22 crore has been spent on the park’s development and an additional Rs.4.65 on its landscaping.

The landscaped green area has a total of four lakh plants of which several are of exotic variety. To make the place interesting for the visitors, each plant is labelled with a barcode which is an innovative first introduced by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority which has designed and developed the park. Apart from this, 22 trees which are 25 years old have been transplanted in the park.

The authorities have selected a diverse selection of plants for the park. It includes 40 varieties that can grow and thrive in drainage-prone areas and shade while there are those that are mosquito-repelling. The park also has scented and aromatic species, and rare ones too.

One of the key attractions of the park are the four elevated walkways. Each of them measures 110 metres in length and have cantilever jetty extending 15 metres over the lake. Apart from this, there is a 240-metre-long and 2-metre-wide curvilinear walkway and a 690-metre-long and 2-metre-wide walkway.

Inside the park there are pavilions, a panchatatva walkway, a promenade area along the lake’s shore, underpasses, a central pathway, and more. Adding beauty to the place are pergolas with illuminated seating and captivating light sculptures.

To provide sufficient illumination to the park there are decorative LED lights, bollard lighting, high mast lighting, column lighting, and neoflex lighting along the boardwalk. These are complemented with theme post tops.

For making the visit of people comfortable, the park has administrative blocks, ticket counters, toilet facilities and other essential amenities.

According to the officials the park will be open to the public from 5.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. The entry fee for adults is Rs.50 and for children it is Rs.10. For the morning walkers there is an option of availing a monthly pass for Rs.100.
