Gold coins were part of the treasure discovered while demolishing old building in Madhya Pradesh

One never knows where the hidden treasure lies. Take for instance, a dilapidated house in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district which according to police, was being demolished for reconstruction, yielded a treasure trove — antique gold coins, a metallic urn, a piece of gold, and old gold jewellery.

Sharing information about the find, Devendra Patidar, Additional Superintendent of Police said this treasure trove of archaeological importance was found by labourers when they were clearing the debris. However, they decided not to reveal this to the owner and shared it among themselves.

Of the eight labourers one in a drunken state revealed that he had sold a coin for Rs.56,000 and this information reached the cops who swung into action and arrested all the eight. So far 86 coins have been recovered from them.

According to the police, the owner of the house was not aware of this treasure, the market value of which is more than Rs.60 lakhs and the archaeological value is over Rs.1.25 crore. The archaeological and revenue departments have been informed about this treasure.
