First ever ice-climbing competition thrills Ladakh and social media

<p>
Giving a flavour of adventure to the people of Ladakh, the North-West Frontier Indo-Tibetan Border Police organised the first ever ice-climbing competition on the weekend and a video of that event, posted by the force on social media has gone viral.</p>

The successful event, witnessed not only enthusiastic participants but also spectators in large numbers, saw more than 100 climbers taking the challenge. The opening ceremony was attended by the Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur, who lauded the initiative and talked about the stellar role played by ITBP in guarding the borders.</p>

The competition was organised by the North-West Frontier Headquarters in Leh in collaboration with the Ladakh Mountaineering Guide Association.</p>
<p>
Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Ladakh’s Member of Parliament attended the closing ceremony of the event and congratulated the winners and lauded the efforts of NW Frontier ITBP, who also won the overall championship.</p>

<p>
A specialised mountain force, ITBP’s soldiers guard India’s border covering 3,488 kilometres from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh. They also man high-altitude outposts (9,000 feet to 18,700 feet) on the Western, Middle, and Eastern sectors along the Indo-China border.</p>
