Fans remember Mogambo on Amrish Puri’s 88th birth anniversary

Today is Amrish Puri’s 88th birthday anniversary. Though the late actor died on January 12, 2005, at the age of 72, he is still remembered by his fans. They posted their wishes on social media in fond memory.

"One of the all time greatest actors of Indian cinema. Happy birthday sir," a user tweeted.

Another fan wrote: "You left a strong impression of every character you played. Happy birthday sir, hope you are in a better place now."

Apart from wishes, fans flooded social media with images and iconic scenes from his movies.

Amrish Puri is best remembered for his villainous roles, especially Mogambo in Mr. India. “Mogambo khush hua” is one of the most memorable dialogues spoken by an Indian villain. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Karan Arjun, Nayak, and Koyla are some of his remarkable movies.

He was not only seen in Hindi films but also in Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil.

Remembering Amrish Puri, actress Kubbra Sait wrote: "Dear Amrish, some karmic connection I have with you. It's bizarre. It's also real. It's rare, I don't share this love with people alive. I want to hear your stories even if someone's been luckier than I to have spent a moment with you or in your aura. Happy Birthday loved one… wherever you are."

Puri was also did theatre. His elder brothers Chaman Puri and Madan Puri were also film actors. The legendary singer-star K.L. Saigal was his first cousin.

He won several Filmfare and Star Screen awards. He was awarded by the Maharashtra state government and the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
