Documentary on tigress Machli, the famous ‘Crocodile Killer’ to be screened at Mumbai Film Festival

<strong>Gracing the venue of the ongoing 17th Mumbai International Film Festival at JB Hall, Films Division Complex today, will be India’s internationally renowned tigress, Machli or T-16 of Ranthambore National Park.</strong></p>
<p>
Before you skip a heartbeat, it is not the feline herself but a documentary on her that will be screened at the venue. The film “The World’s Most Famous Tiger”, which won the National Award in the category “Best Indian Environment Film” in 2019, has been directed by Subbaih Nalla Muthu. The filmmaker will also hold a Master Class at the same place.</p>
<p>
The 44-minute-long documentary follows the life of Machli from her prime till her death capturing her rise to power, her heart-breaking descent and the extraordinary legacy she left behind.</p>
<p>
Machli was fondly called by different names like ‘Lady of the Lake’, ‘Queen of Ranthambore’ and ‘Crocodile Killer’. She also earned the distinction of being the most photographed tigress in the world.</p>

Known for her hunting prowess and strength Machli in 2003 fought and killed a 12-foot-long mugger crocodile. She died on August 18, 2016 and her death was mourned widely in India and abroad.</p>

Nallamuthu is a five-time National Film Award winning wildlife film maker has made innumerable documentaries on environment and the interaction between humans and the ecosystem such as ‘Earth File’ for BBC World and ‘The World Gone Wild’ for Animal Planet.  He is a member of the International Jury at MIFF 2022.</p>
