With the aim to check and curb crimes against women and children in Bengaluru, the city police has formed a team of women police personnel. Described as a progressive step for ensuring safety and security of the vulnerable section, the team of 31 women, will be specially trained to handle law and order situations concerning this section.
Besides law and order issues, the team will also make sure that counselling is provided to the rescued women so that they become normal and are able to get over the effects of the incident and lead their life.
Making this announcement on his Twitter handle, the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, Kamal Pant said the team will be known as ‘Rani Chennamma Pade’ -‘By Women, For Women, Of Women’.
He wrote: “A team of specially trained 31 @BlrCityPolice women officers will keep a tab on crimes against women & children and create awareness among them."

The focus of the ‘Rani Chennamma Pade’ team will be on educating and training women about basic self-defence techniques, making them aware of about the laws concerning women and children like POCSO, NDPS Act because in many cases they are not in know about them, their rights and also about laws in their favour. Being unaware of these acts as a deterrent for them to file complaints in case of criminal incidents against them.
With the digital medium becoming prominent in the society, women will also be made aware about the use of social media and cybercrimes and how to lodge complaints in such scenarios.
Besides Bengaluru, other cities too have initiated special wings or teams of female police personnel for tackling crimes against women like the Nirbhaya squad of Mumbai.
