7 Indian restaurants make it to World’s best list

Kozhikode's Paragon Restaurant, famous for its biryani, has been listed as 11th legendary in the list by Taste Atlas

That India offers a wide variety of cuisine and dishes for foodies and tourists is known globally. Now Taste Atlas, an experiential travel online guide, in its recent list of Top 150 Most Legendary Restaurants in the World has mentioned seven Indian outlets which promise one-of-a-kind gastronomic adventure.

Paragon restaurant of Kozhikode, Kerala has been placed as 11th most legendary restaurant in the world in this list. The outlet’s biryani has been described as its “most iconic dish”.

Talking about this restaurant, the guide mentions: “Paragon in Kozhikode, Kerala, is an emblem of the region’s rich gastronomic history, celebrated for its mastery of traditional Malabar cuisine. The dish that reigns supreme is the biryani, a blend of rice, meat, and spices, steeped in age-old traditions and prepared with locally sourced ingredients.”

Paragon came into being in 1939 and became renowned for its ambience and atmosphere and of course its dishes. Incidentally, the outlet is famous for showcasing local produce and employing traditional cooking methods, thereby reflecting the culinary expertise and flavour of the place.

Following Paragon is Lucknow’s Tunday Kababi which is well-known among food lovers for its Mughlai cuisine. As per Taste Atlas this outlet’s “Star offering, the galouti kebab, is a culinary masterpiece featuring finely minced meat tenderized with raw papaya and an assortment of spices. Its distinctive taste profile and the legacy behind its creation have garnered Tunday Kababi a devoted following, both domestically and internationally.”

Other Indian restaurants in the list include Peter Cat in Kolkata (17th), Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba in Murthal (23rd), Mavali Tiffin Rooms in Bengaluru (39th), Karim’s in Delhi (87th), and Ram Ashraya in Mumbai (112th).

Austria’s Figlmüller in Vienna tops the list having earned its “reputation by specialising in a single dish – the Schnitzel Wiener Art – for over a century” and it is followed by New York City’s Katz’s Delicatessen Sanur Indonesia’s Warung Mak Beng, in second and third positions respectively.
