The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi paid homage to country's 'Father of the Nation' Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Monday to mark the leader's historic return to independent Bangladesh from Pakistan jail.

It was on January 10 in 1972 that Bangabandhu returned home, nearly a month after country's triumph in the nine-month Liberation War against the Pakistani occupational forces.

Led by High Commissioner Muhammad Imran, officials and embassy staff of the Bangladesh High Commission marked the day of laying flower wreaths at the portrait of the leader.

Later a discussion conducted by Head of Chancery Md. Shafiul Alam was held at the Bangabandhu auditorium of the embassy and messages from President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out by Press Minister Shaban Mahmood and Commerce Minister A K M Atiqul Haque, respectively.
