PDM ready for march to Islamabad, will bring down Imran government: Fazlur Rehman

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is prepared for its anti-inflation march–the Mehngai march, on Islamabad, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Sunday.

Maulana Fazl spoke with journalists in Peshawar, saying that the dates for the anti-inflation march will not be changed. He added that the march will bring down the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government which has brought inflation, poverty and instability upon the country.

He said that his party’s impressive performance in the local elections was not because of the situation in Afghanistan or a deal with the establishment. “We should not link results of the elections with the internal or external factors,” he said, adding that the PDM always demanded free and fair elections, reports the Dawn newspaper.

He said that the PTI government has lost the confidence of the people therefore it lost the local elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Maulana Fazl added that Prime Minister Imran Khan's party would again lose the LG elections in the province. “The PTI will bite the dust in the second phase,” he said with confidence.

The Business Recorder quotes the Maulana as saying that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif will lead the anti-government march in Islamabad. He added that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif should return to Pakistan and take this movement forward as Pakistan was his country.

About the Taliban's opposition to the border fencing, he said that Pakistan should be extremely careful about new developments on the western border. He added that Afghanistan needed peace and stability after decades of war and Pakistan should not be part of any problem on the western border.

Maulana Fazl criticised the recently-approved mini-budget and the government's decision to borrow from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
