Normalisation of ties with China only possible if situation along western LAC is fully resolved: NSA Doval

India has conveyed to China that the normalisation of ties can take place only when the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the western sector is fully resolved.

In talks on Monday between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the CPC Foreign Affairs Commission on the sidelines of the BRICS NSAs’ Meeting in Johannesburg, NSA conveyed that the situation along the LAC in the Western Sector of the India-China boundary since 2020 had eroded strategic trust and the public and political basis of the relationship, a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs said.

NSA Doval emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to fully resolve the situation and restore peace and tranquillity in the border areas, to remove impediments to normalcy in bilateral relations.

Both sides agreed that the India-China bilateral relationship is significant not only for the two countries but also for the region and world.

Separately, NSA told his interlocutors India’s intent to voice the Global South’s concerns, particularly overcoming limitations of resources.

Doval’s interaction precedes the 15th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping have been invited.

During the meeting PM Modi is expected to carry forward his vision of utilising India’s current G20 presidency to give resonance to the voice of the Global South and the importance of South-South Cooperation to collectively shape the global agenda.
