Khalistanis supporters heckle Rahul Gandhi’s US event

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was heckled today by a group of Khalistani supporters who interrupted his speech with Khalistani slogans and flags at an event in the US state of California.

Gandhi arrived here on Tuesday on a three-city US tour during which he will interact with the Indian diaspora and meet American lawmakers.

Gandhi was speaking at the ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’ event organised by Indian Overseas Congress USA in Santa Clara when a few members of the audience started raising slogans against him and the Gandhi family in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.  The pro-Khalistanis took back seats and moment he started speaking raised slogans like ‘Nasalkhushi ke vyapari’ (businessman of Genocide) and ‘Khalistan Zindabad’. They also raised slogans for him to go back to India. Calling him a member of Indira Gandhi’s family they said, ‘Wapas Jao’ (Go back). The protestors at the venue also displayed the Khalistan flags they were carrying.

Rahul Gandhi responded by saying “Welcome, welcome … nafrat ke bazaar mein mohabbat ki dukan” (Shop of Love in Hate’s market). He then reportedly got down and joined his supporters in the audience and responded with ‘Bharat Jodo’ slogans.
