In a gesture of cross-cultural celebration, Israel’s President Herzog visits Grand Mosque in the United Arab Emirates

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog has visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi—a move that symbolizes that Israel and the United Arab Emirates are ready to add a cultural dimension to their ties which have been normalised after the signing of the Abraham Accords by the two former foes.

Herzog was accompanied by the First Lady Michal Herzog. Mohammed Al Khaja, the UAE's ambassador to Israel; Amir Hayek, Israeli Ambassador to the UAE; and several senior Israeli officials were part of the visiting team, the UAE daily Khaleej Times reported.

During the tour, the visiting delegation was familiarised about Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's message, spotlighting coexistence, tolerance, and openness to the cultures, the daily said.

Besides, they were acquainted with the mosque’s history, components, and aesthetic features of Islamic art and architecture as well as fusion of various architectural styles from different eras reflecting the theme of uniting the world through art.

Earlier, Herzog met Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Force.

The two leaders also took stock of what has already been achieved by the two sides in the fields of economy, trade, investment, development, technology, health, and other fields.

The two countries had signed the Abraham Accords in 2020—a a joint statement between the State of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, on August 13, 2020. Later the term was used to refer collectively to agreements between Israel , the UAE and Bahrain.
