TTD to ply e-buses for pilgrims in Tirumala

Continuing with its commitment to reduce carbon footprints, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is introducing e-buses in the pilgrim centre. In this initiative Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited established in 1989 is helping TTD as it is offering 10 such buses manufactured by their subsidiary Olectra Greentech Limited.

These 9-metre-long buses will be delivered soon to TTD.

Sesha Reddy, TTD General Manager Operations who visited the Olectra factory to inspect these buses said that they were delighted with the e-bus prototype. “We thank MEIL for offering 10 Olectra pure e-buses. The e-buses will help us reduce carbon emissions on the hill shrine,” the GM said.

At present, 12 diesel buses are transporting pilgrims to Tirumala uphill. The rising price of fuel and concern for the ecology of the area is making TTD look for alternatives. The e-buses are expected to not only cut down fuel expenses but also reduce carbon emissions.

Referring to their offering of the buses to TTD as a modest one to Lord Venkateswara, K.V. Pradeep, OGL Chairman and Managing Director said it is their attempt to spread goodness and assist in making the ‘Spiritual Capital’ of Andhra Pradesh emission-free, clean and noise-less.

Apart from offering e-buses, Olectra is setting up chargers also.

Olectra is already running 50 e-buses under the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation between Tirupati and Tirumala daily.
