With marketing and selling going online, the Kerala Government has launched an initiative to make 131 value-added agri products available on e-commerce platforms. This move will ensure that products like jam, coconut oil, rice, rice flakes and rice powder among others will have a better and wider reach.
All these products will be sold under the common brand name of Keralagro on Flipkart and Amazon, thereby helping them garner maximum visibility.
The 131 value products that will be sold are all produced and processed at the 64 government-owned farms across Kerala. Sharing details on this move, P. Prasad, the Minister for Agriculture said it will make people aware of the items, their quality and uniqueness. He added apart from food items, they also plan to sell seeds and fertilisers also.
With a view to increase the portfolio of products, the Government will rope in individuals and cooperative societies under the Keralagro brand. The plan is to provide 1,000 products and more under the brand name including those with Geographical Indicator tags.
Moreover, every Krishi Bhavan in Kerala has been asked to ensure that at least one value-added product is added to the list by them. This will increase the production as well as market for agricultural products thereby giving a boost to the income of farmers.
As packaging is an important component of e-commerce, training has been imparted to a group of people at Mumbai’s Indian Institute of Packaging.
In the past, these commodities were sold in stalls run by the government and exhibitions. In 2022, Nelliyampathy farm products were available on Amazon.
