PM Modi unveils quarter century blueprint for India’s rise on the global stage

Marking 75 years of India’s independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a quarter century blueprint that would make India a fully developed nation, citing corruption, gender discrimination and nepotism as the chronic ailments that would need to be rooted out.

In his rousing address, the Prime Minister made it plain that India’s rise can be accomplished only if it is based on its very own civilizational DNA. Only a “decolonised mind” can open the mental space for India to chart out a new path to global success that others can emulate.

PM Modi cited five “Prans” (pledges) that would take India to international eminence.

"I urge the country’s youth to dedicate the next 25 years of their lives for the nation's development. We will work towards the development of the entire humanity," the Prime Minister said. PM Modi coined the term “Amrit Kal” as the guiding pathway to meet India’s lofty aspirations of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.

Secondly, “We should not try to become like others, there should be no trace of slavery in our mindset. "Sometimes our talent is restricted by language barriers, we need to be proud of every language in our country," he said. "We must not seek validation from the world. We must maintain our identity as a proud nation," PM Modi explained.

Thirdly, “We should be proud of our roots and heritage. "When we are connected to our roots, only then can we fly high. When we fly high, we will provide solutions to the entire world," the Prime Minister said.

“We should also be united as a people to work towards the uplift of the nation. Equality is the cornerstone of India's progress. We need to make sure we are united through the mantra of "India first” PM Modi said explaining the fourth pledge. He also mentioned the need for equality between people, and emphasised the importance of equality for women. "Respect for women is an important pillar for India's growth, we need to support our 'Nari Shakti'," he pointed out.

"The fifth pledge is a sense of duty among citizens. It is the duty of people to save electricity, water. If we follow this, we can reach the desired results ahead of time. These duties apply to all citizens of India including even the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers. Any nation that has progressed, has discipline ingrained in its citizens, if all follow their responsibilities, India will grow fast," PM Modi added.

From the ramparts of the Red Fort, the Prime Minister declared an all-out war against corruption and nepotism.

“Corruption is hollowing the country like a termite, the country will have to fight it,” he asserted. PM Modi stressed that the corruption will not end unless there is a societal rejection of the corrupt.

“This mentality is not going to end until corruption and hatred towards the corrupt are not created, they do not compel them to look down on them socially.”

Besides, PM Modi also pointed out that nepotism is not confined to politics alone but is a social ill, which must be eradicated as it is impeding India’s rise.

“When I talk about nepotism…, people think I am talking about politics only. No, unfortunately that evil in the political field has nurtured “parivarvad” (family first approach) in every institution of India.” He stressed that nepotism is weakening India’s institutional edifice and extinguishing hope among the youth who are not connected in high places.
