A 27-year-old man was chased by a policeman and caught as he was running away after stealing a ring from a posh jewellery store in Delhi's Connaught Place, police said.

The incident took place today when a masked man entered a Tanishq store and started inquiring about different jewellery items from an employee, Delhi deputy commissioner of police Deepak Yadav said.

The staff at the store got suspicious of his behaviour and informed the police, following which a constable was sent to the spot.

The accused has been identified as Praveen, a resident of Rohtak in Haryana.

A video from the CCTV footage showed the thief posing as a buyer and looking at jewellery being shown by a salesperson. He is then seen putting a ring in his pocket when the salesperson leaves the counter for a while.

The footage also shows a policeman sprinting after the thief who is trying to run away. The cop catches up and nabs the culprit.
