Watch: Truck rams into rhinoceros on Assam highway

A video shared by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shows a speeding truck colliding with a rhinoceros on the highway at Haldibari in Dhubri district.

The 10-second video shows the rhino running out of a forest to cross the highway, but then suddenly a truck speeding down the road comes in front of it and the animal gets hit.

The rhinoceros falls on the road and then gets up to turn back into the forest but stumbles and falls. It then rises again and finally manages to scamper off the highway, but appears to be injured due to the heavy impact.

“Rhinos are our special friends; we’ll not allow any infringement on their space,” the chief minister tweeted: “In this unfortunate incident at Haldibari the Rhino survived; vehicle intercepted & fined. Meanwhile in our resolve to save animals at Kaziranga we’re working on a special 32-km elevated corridor.”
