South Central Railway rolls out affordable quality meals at 4 stations

The South Central Railway has started providing affordable, quality, and hygienic meals to the rail passengers at four of its stations. Called Economy Meals, these can be bought at Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Renigunta and Guntakal railway stations.

The SCR zone has ensured that these are enough meals for the rail passengers travelling in General coaches. The menu for these meals will include North Indian and South Indian food items.

Commenting on this, Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager SCR said: “The provision of Economy meals will be particularly useful to the general passengers. Over SCR, these are being provided at 4 stations to begin with, and meals would be served from the kitchen units of Indian Railway Tourism and Catering Service that are functioning at these stations.”

There will be two types of meals that will be available. While the economy meal has been priced at Rs.20, the combo meal can be bought for Rs.50. The meals served through refreshment rooms and Jan Aahars of IRCTC will be kept on the platform near General Coaches so that a large number of passengers can avail the service.

The service counters will be used by the authorised vendors for stacking, service and sale of economy meals to the passengers.
