Workers move goods as Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi vacates his official bungalow at 12 Tughlak Lane, in New Delhi, on April 14, 2023

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday started the process of vacating his official 12 Tughlak Lane bungalow in New Delhi as he has been disqualified as an MP.

Trucks were seen outside the bungalow taking his baggage to the 10 Janpath residence of his mother Sonia Gandhi.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat on March 27 gave notice to Rahul Gandhi to vacate the government bungalow by April 22 following his disqualification as Lok Sabha MP after his conviction in a Surat court over a criminal defamation case. The move to vacate the bungalow came a day after Surat Session’s Court decided to pronounce the order on April 20 on his interim application for stay on his conviction in the defamation case.

The court had on April 3 granted bail to the Congress leader, who had filed an appeal against the court verdict in the Modi surname defamation case.

Sources said it is not clear if Rahul Gandhi will permanently shift to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s residence and added that his office is also searching for another house which will be finalised after getting the green signal from the security agencies as Rahul Gandhi has Z+ security.
