PM Modi interacts with ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ couple at Tamil Nadu camp

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the Theppakkadu elephant camp at Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris hills district and interacted with Bellie and Bomman, the elephant caretakers who featured in an Oscar-winning documentary.

The Prime Minister visited the tiger sanctuary in Mudumalai briefly today.

Upon his arrival, the PM was accorded a welcome and he fed sugarcane to some of the elephants in the Theppakkadu camp at the tiger reserve.

He also interacted with field directors of tiger reserves that have scored highest in the recently concluded 5th cycle of the Management Effectiveness Evaluation exercise.

 

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi visited Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka where he interacted with frontline field staff and Self Help Groups involved in conservation efforts.

“Spent the morning at the scenic Bandipur Tiger Reserve and got a glimpse of India’s wildlife, natural beauty and diversity,”the Prime Minister tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi launched the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) on Sunday.

In July 2019, Prime Minister Modi had called for an Alliance of Global Leaders to firmly curb poaching and illegal wildlife trade in Asia. IBCA will focus on the protection and conservation of seven major big cats of the world — Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar and Cheetah.
