Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday sent a strong message across the country that he is a people’s Prime Minister.

PM Modi said that he always believes that he is a “sevak” (one who serves) of the people of the country rather than a prime minister.

“In the last 8 years…not even once did I vision myself as the PM. Only when I sign documents do I have the responsibility of a PM but as soon as the file is gone, I'm no longer a PM… I'm just a Pradhan Sevak of 130 crore people who are everything in my life,” the Prime Minister said in a massive political outreach to the people.

At the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan' event in Shimla, the Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of different government schemes to get feedback on how they were faring.

He also reached out through video to people across the country to get a bigger picture on how these social welfare measures were working at the ground level.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, the endeavour of the Sammelan was to make the reach and delivery of government programmes more efficient so as to improve the ease of living of the citizens of the country.

The Prime Minister also released Rs 21,000 crore to more than 10 crore poor farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.

Drawing a comparison between government schemes during his tenure and times before 2014, PM Modi said: “Earlier talk used to be about schemes that never saw the light of day. Nepotism and scams were rampant. However, today, the talk is about benefits from govt schemes… Today India's start-ups are being talked about globally. Even the World Bank talks about India's ease of doing business policies,” he added.
