NIA seeks public support to identify Khalistani supporters who vandalised Indian High commission in London, releases CCTV footage

Investigating the vandalisation of Indian High commission in London on March 19 by Khalistani supporters, NIA has sought public support to identify the accused.

The anti-terror federal agency in an unprecedented move released on its official Twitter handle over two hours of CCTV footage of the ‘attack’ and appealed to people to provide information regarding the persons seen in the videos. The public at large has been asked to act in public interest and has given a WhatsApp number while promising to keep the identity of the informant secret.

An official request for information from NIA reads, “CCTV footage of the attack by anti-national elements on High Commission of India London, which happened on 19.03.2023 is uploaded above. All the members of the public are requested to provide any information regarding the persons seen in the footage to the NIA in the public interest. Information may be provided on Whatsapp No +91 7290009373. The identity of the informant shall be kept secret.”

It was on March 19 that pro-Khalistani supporters aggressively protested outside Indian High Commission against crackdown on Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh. One of the pro-Khalistan protestor climbed onto the Indian High Commission’s balcony and pulled down the national flag on March 19 trying to hoist Khalistani flag.

A case was registered by the Delhi Police on March 24 in connection under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. The FIR was registered on complaint of Kiran Kumar Vasant Bhosale, assistant personnel and welfare officer at the High Commission who alleged that on March 19 afternoon, when he was at the High Commission for “routine security check”, he saw a crowd of about 50 or 60 protesters assemble in front of the building. “They were carrying yellow flags used by Khalistani separatists. I immediately informed the Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) through an SOS call about the emerging situation,” Bhosale stated in the FIR.

Later the NIA took over the probe from the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and for the first time in history went on to investigate an anti-national crime on foreign soil in London. They took CCTV footage in their custody and also spoke to the High Commission officials.
