Inspired by Sardar Patel’s message of unity — PM Modi lauds Ekta Nagar as the emblem of a New India

Continuing with his efforts to turn India into a developed country by re-laying its foundations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday showcased Ekta Nagar, built around the ideas and gravitas of Sardar Patel.

During his address with the statue of Sardar Patel—the country’s tallest in the background—PM Modi asserted that the city of Ekta Nagar, the new name for Kevadia, will symbolise all the values of a New India.

“This Ekta Nagar, a model city of India is developing, which will be unprecedented not only in the country but all over the world. Ekta Nagar, which develops with the unity of the people, the power of public participation, is becoming grand and divine today. “

Besides, the city, a pilot project, will embody all the key ideas that are being infused all over the country to trigger the rise of a New India.

PM Modi said that Ekta Nagar will embody the best of practices, flagged by his government, regarding environmental protection, including solar powered transportation. The city will be lit by energy saving LED devises.

The lionisation of Sardar Patel, India’s first Home Minister whose birth anniversary is being celebrated as “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” follows the elevation and bracketing also of Subhash Chandra Bose among the tallest leaders inspiring the rise of a New India.

While Patel is credited with uniting India, Bose is being lauded for his vision of a powerful and prosperous country, which has shed its slavish, colonial mentality. In September while unveiling his statue of Bose in canopy near India Gate, PM Modi had said:  “Today if Netaji’s statue has been replaced by the mark of George V’s statue, then this is not the first example of abandonment of slavery mentality.”

He pointed out that Netaji Subhash’s vision of a new India will guide the country in the era of Amritkal—an era which will culminate with India’s emergence as a fully developed country by 2047.

In his address, the Prime Minister said that celebration of Ekta Diwas, symbolised by Sardar Patel, amplified the necessity of adopting the “Panch Pranas,” which he had aired during his Independence Day speech, to usher the rise of a New India, which could be accomplished only with the complete decolonisation of the mind.

“Today, the people of the country are taking a pledge for the unity and integrity of the nation to awaken the ‘Panch Pranas’ of Amritkal.”

The Prime Minister, nevertheless cautioned that there is feverish attempt within and outside to splinter India.

“As in the past, the forces that have been disturbed by India’s rise and rise still exist today.  Even today, they make every effort to break us, divide us. Different narratives are created to make us fight in the name of castes.  There is an attempt to divide us in the name of provinces.  Sometimes campaigns are run to describe one Indian language as the enemy of another Indian language.  History is also presented in such a way that the people of the country do not connect, but are away from each other!”
