India strikes positive note as New Year brings signs of beating Covid blues

Brushing aside Covid blues, the Indian leaders have greeted the world with a message of positivity and hope for 2021.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent out his message on Twitter, saying: "Wishing you a happy 2021!, May this year bring good health, joy and prosperity. May the spirit of hope and wellness prevail.”

President Ram Nath Kovind too greeted people through his Twitter and said: "On the occasion of New Year, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all our fellow citizens living in India and abroad."

"This difficult time arising out of COVID-19 situation is a time for all of us to move forward unitedly. This is also the time to strengthen the cultural values that reinforce our belief of unity in diversity.

On the eve of New Year 2021, let us work together towards creating an inclusive society instilled with the spirit of love, compassion and forbearance that promotes peace and goodwill."

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu tweeted, “I convey my warm greetings and best wishes to all our citizens as we step into the New Year 2021.”

In his message, Naidu said: "Let us welcome the New Year with this spirit of hope as we bid goodbye to a year that has taught us many life lessons through one of the most disruptive pandemics in recent memory. Let us enter the New Year with renewed commitment and hope to fight and defeat this pandemic. With vaccine likely to be available anytime soon, let us welcome 2021 with new enthusiasm and positivity."

The Vice President ended his message with a Vedic couplet: "As the Vedic seers had prayed 2000 years ago, let us hope that we hear auspicious news, view pleasant things and spend our lives meaningfully and peacefully in the coming year. (<em>Bhadram Karnebhih Srunuyama Devah, Bhadram Pashyema Akshabhir Yajatrah, Sthirairangaih tushtuvamsasthanubhih vyashema Devahitam yadayuh</em>)”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said: "Happy New Year to you and your entire family. May the year 2021 bring happiness, prosperity and good health in everyone's lives."

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted a video saying: "Wish good health and happiness to all as we head into 2021." The Indian missions across the world followed suit by greeting people and wishing everyone a happy new year.

The Indian embassy in France posted a warm message about India-France relations. "Wishing everyone a healthy & prosperous New Year. Looking forward for stronger Flag of India-Flag of France partnership; for health, economic recovery, stable international world order & peaceful world.#NewYear2021

The Indian ambassador to Nepal, Vinay Mohan Kwatra greeted the people of Nepal with his best wishes for the New Year 2021 by posting a photo-message in local language Nepali.

Indian ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu wished a "Happy New Year!" on his Twitter timeline and shared a video that summed up US-India relations in the last year.

The Indian embassy in Russia also posted its greetings on Twitter, saying: "wishes everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous #NewYear 2021!".
