India records 1,054 fresh COVID cases in last 24 hours, Kerala leads

India recorded 1,054 fresh COVID infections in the last 24 hours with a case positivity rate of 0.25 per cent, according to figures released by the Health Ministry on Sunday.<br />
<br />
The number of active cases in the country has now gone up to 11,132.<br />
<br />
There were also 29 deaths due to coronavirus infections in the country during the last 24 hours.<br />
<br />
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has sent a letter to the state governments of Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana and Mizoram as the number of COVID cases is rising in these states.<br />
<br />
Kerala reported 2,321 new cases in the last week, accounting for 31.8 per cent of the country's coronavirus infections. The weekly positivity rate in the state has also gone up to 15.53 per cent from 13.45 per cent.<br />
<br />
"Given that the states/UTs have been undertaking various measures to reopen economic and social activities, there is a need for continuous follow up of a risk assessment-based approach for management of COVID 19," Mr Bhushan wrote.<br />
<br />
As many as 4,18,345 COVID samples were tested on Saturday. A total of 79.38 crore tests have been conducted in the country so far.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, 14,38,792 COVID vaccine shots were administered in the last 24 hours. As the nationwide vaccination drive continues 185.7 crore vaccine shots have been administered to the people of the country so far.  <br />
