A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale occurred near the India-Myanmar border on Friday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology.</p>

Tremors were felt across Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Assam. Witness accounts on European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre&#39;s (EMSC) website said that tremors of the earthquake were felt as far away as Kolkata.</p>
<p>
The epicentre of the earthquake was 183 kilometres east of Chittagong in Bangladesh. According to the Seismology Center, the quake occurred at 5.15 am.</p>
<p>
There were also reports of a second earthquake at 5.53 am.</p>
