Cold wave in Delhi, northern states disrupts flights, train services

The cold wave sweeping across Delhi and the northern states continues unabated with dense fog disrupting flights and train services on Saturday.

The Delhi airport issued an advisory to passengers about the low visibility due to dense fog conditions and asking them to contact their airlines regarding revised flight schedules.

According to ANI, around 34 domestic departure flights from Delhi airport were delayed due to bad weather and other related issues. Over 12 arrival flights are delayed at the airport from different destinations. Several trains were also running late due the low visibility caused by the thick fog blanket that has covered the northern states.

In a tweet, the Delhi airport said “low visibility procedures are in progress at the Delhi airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.”

On Friday, Delhi was reportedly colder than hill stations like Dalhousie, Dehradun and Nainital with the minimum temperature at Ayanagar in southwest Delhi plunging to a chilling 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan also reeled from the intense cold wave sweeping across the region.

However, there was some respite in Kashmir as the minimum temperature improved slightly although rain is expected in the Valley from today.

Several flights were also delayed on Friday and trains ran late due to fog and low visibility conditions in Delhi and the northern states.
