Paracetamol, amoxycillin among 127 medicines made cheaper in fresh NPPA review

Commonly used medicines like paracetamol, amoxycillin rabeprazole and metformin are among the list of 127 medicines that will now become cheaper after the year-end review of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) for the new price cap of these drugs.  This is the fifth time in 2022 that NPPA has decided to reduce the price of medicines.

At present paracetamol (650 mg) is priced at around Rs 2.30 per tablet. The price has now been reduced by 25 percent which will bring the retail price of the medicine to Rs 1.80 per tablet.  The price of amoxycillin and potassium clavulanate has been reduced from Rs 22.30 per tablet to Rs 16.80 per tablet while the price of 400 mg Moxifloxacin has come down from Rs 31.50 per tablet to Rs 22.80 per tablet.

Bengal Chemists and Druggists Association secretary Sajal Ganguly told the media that the new prices will come into effect from the end of January as it usually takes a month for the fresh stock of drugs to come in the market with the new prices.
