Tata Group is in talks with Wistron Corp, a Taiwanese supplier to Apple Inc, for setting up an electronics manufacturing joint venture that would assemble iPhones in India, according to a Bloomberg report.
The discussions with Wistron Corp. are aimed at giving the Tata Group an entry into technology hardware manufacturing.
Currently iPhones are mainly assembled by Taiwanese manufacturing giants like Wistron and Foxconn Technology Group in China and India.
However, any such talks would first need the approval of Apple as well the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), according to sources.
Apple is looking at alternatives to China for its products and India with its large market and fast-growing economy presents an attractive opportunity.
