PurEV electric scooter goes up in flames on Chennai road sparking safety concerns

<p>
An electric scooter made by Hyderabad startup PureEV burst into flames at Chennai on Wednesday raising concerns about the safety of such electric vehicles. The incident comes merely two days after a brand new Ola Electric scooter caught fire in Pune.  </p>

A viral video of the incident shows plumes of smoke billowing from the electric scooter parked on the roadside in Manjampakkam, a residential colony in north Chennai. </p>
<p>
On March 28, a video on social media showed Ola's S1 electric scooter catching fire in Pune. The EV was also parked on the roadside when the incident took place.</p>
<p>
Reacting to the incident, Ola co-founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said in a tweet: "Safety is top priority. We're investigating this and will fix it."</p>
