Mahindra Group starts supply of India-made Armoured Light Specialist Vehicles to Army

The Mahindra Group has started deliveries of its fully-indigenous Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV), Armado, to the Indian armed forces.

The armoured vehicle can be used in raids in open and desert terrains, counter-terrorism operations and reconnaissance missions. The vehicle is also expected to come handy for Special Forces and quick reaction teams for conventional operations.

The Armado has ballistic protection up to the B7 level and STANAG level-2 which assures protection against armour-piercing rifles. It is also protected from all sides from ballistics and explosives.

The vehicle can accommodate a driver and 5 passengers and has ample storage space for arms and ammunition in the crew compartment. It also has additional capacity to carry 400 kg.

The 4xw wheel vehicle is powered by a 3.2-litre multi-fuel diesel engine capable of generating 216 hp which is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The vehicle is also equipped with a self-recovery winch.

The Armado accelerates from 0 to 60 kmph in 12 seconds and has a top speed of more than 120 kmph.

Announcing the delivery of the first Armado to the defence forces on Saturday, Mahindra Group chairman tweeted: #MahindraDefence we have just begun deliveries of the Armado—India’s 1st Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle. Designed, developed & built with pride in India for our armed forces. Jai Hind.  I salute @Prakashukla who has led our Defence Sector with enormous commitment.
