Amazon sacks 500 staffers in India

US tech giant Amazon is laying off another 500 employees in India across different businesses including Amazon Web Services and more such sackings could be in line as the company said the process is “ongoing.”

Some Amazon’s onboarding functions in tier-2 cities such as Kochi and Lucknow have also been shut down as a part of the restructuring, according to a report in the Economic Times.

This is the second round of layoffs at Amazon in recent months after all tech giants took a hammering in the stock markets worldwide.

This fresh round of layoffs is part of the wider downsizing announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in March, impacting 9,000 employees.

The tech giant had announced in January that it would sack around 18,000 employees globally to cut costs.
