The Tibet Airlines flight, carrying 113 passengers and nine crew, was headed from the southwestern city of Chongqing in China to Tibet's Nyingchi when the crew noticed "abnormalities" and "suspended take off", causing the jet to overrun the runway and catch fire, an AFP report cited Tibet Airlines as saying.

A video shared on social media showed flames engulfing the wing of the airliner and terrified passengers running away to save their lives.

Tibet Airlines claimed all passengers and crew were safely evacuated. The airline admitted that some passengers were injured and have been hospitalised.

This is the second major mishap in Chinese aviation after a China Eastern flight plunged from 29,000 feet into a mountainside in March, killing all 132 people on board.
