Yoga demonstrations planned at 75 heritage sites on International Yoga Day

<strong>As a run-up to the 8th International Yoga Day celebrated on June 21 every year, the Government launched Yoga Mahotsav 2022 on Sunday. The event commemorating 100 days countdown to IYD was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Ayush, Sarbanand Sonowal in the Capital. </strong></p>
<p>
The coming edition of IDY will focus on the theme 100 days, 100 cities and 100 organizations till June 21.</p>

For the very first time in view of the ongoing Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav celebration commemorating 75 years of Indian Independence, Yoga will be demonstrated at 75 heritage and iconic cultural sites on IYD. Apart from this, there will be Yoga programmes, demonstrations, workshops and seminars not just in India but world over.</p>

The Union Ministry of Ayush will also give wide coverage about the benefits of using WHO mYoga App, Namastey App, Y-break App. People-centric activities and programmes will be launched on MyGov platform including photo contest, quiz, discussion, pledge, poll survey and jingle.</p>

Talking to the media on the occasion, Sonowal said that since 2015 Yoga has become a mass movement and has been recognized as the biggest public initiative in the world with more than 250 million people practicing the common yoga protocol developed by the Ministry of Ayush. “My Ministry has taken initiatives to make yoga an Indian brand for world peace and also to promote the motto of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’,” he said.</p>

The Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar present at the event said his State is the first one to establish a Yoga Commission and proposes to establish an Ayush University in Kurukshetra spread in 100 acres. Further, steps have been taken to ensure that an Ayush Doctor is available in 2,000 Public Health Centres.</p>

Sikkim is planning to set up a National Yoga and Meditation Institute near Kritunga Lake, informed the State CM, Prem Singh Tamang. Sharing details, he said it will be a global institution which will impart knowledge about Yoga. Further, he added that Yoga is part of the school curriculum of Sikkim and 500 teachers are teaching this ancient tradition.</p>
