An incident which could have led to a major tragedy was averted by the timely intervention of railway staff and people at Duvvada Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
In the morning a woman, named Sasikala, slipped and got trapped between the train compartment and the platform while deboarding. This 20-year-old student who hails from Annavaram, travels by train to Duvvada to attend a college, where she studies.
She had travelled by the 17243 Guntur-Rayagada Express, a passenger train, yesterday when this unfortunate incident took place.
Fortunately, the Railway Police Force, Government Railway Police, and other engineering staff swung in action immediately. They ensured that the train did not move and started the rescue operations.
Before launching the rescue operation – which lasted for one-and-a-half hour — the Railway staff made her comfortable and calmed her. The edges of the platform were broken to bring the woman out and end her ordeal. As she had suffered injuries on her waist and leg, Sasikala was immediately rushed to the hospital.
