Week-long celebration of International Museum Day begins today with free entry to museums across the country

<p>
<strong>With the need to connect with the past being an important part of a country’s progress, the Ministry of Culture celebrating the 75th anniversary of India’s freedom, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava on the occasion of International Museum Day on May 18 (Wednesday), is organising a week-long of special events across museums from today.</strong></p>

Under this initiative which ends on May 20,  New Delhi’s National Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Allahabad Museum at Prayagraj, Kolkata’s Indian Museum and Victoria Memorial Hall, Salar Jung Museum at Hyderabad and science cities and centres under National Council of Science Museums located in 24 places, will hold specially curated programmes.</p>
<p>
The Ministry had already announced free entry for visitors to all the museums across the country during this designated week.</p>
<p>
The slew of special programmes curated to widened outreach and attract diverse and inclusive audiences include special exhibitions, projection mapping shows, extended museum hours, music/dance performances including flash-mob and targeted activities for children such as clay-modelling, miniature painting, origami workshops. This is expected to provide visitors across all age groups a holistic experience.</p>

Besides this, limited edition museum merchandise as well as photo booths in all museums will also be launched.</p>
<p>
On the cards is also the launch of ‘Museum’ – a hackathon with museum-centric problem statements; and a ‘Museums in India’ mobile app containing a digital repository of their collections.</p>
<p>
A webinar titled ‘Museology as a Profession: Challenges and prospects’ will be held on the occasion of IMD 2022, by National Museum Institute. There will also be a quiz hosted in collaboration with MyGov to popularize these repositories of India’s collective heritage.</p>
