WATCH: New bridge collapses as it is being inaugurated in Congo

In a bizarre incident, a newly built bridge in Democratic Republic of Congo collapsed while officials were inaugurating it, the country’s Khaama Press news agency reported.

Videos of the accident are circulating on social media where people are mocking the quality of construction. The bridge was built to enable locals cross a river as they were making do with a temporary structure that used to break frequently.

One of the videos shows officials standing on the bridge to formally inaugurate it during an official event. The inauguration would have been complete with the cutting of a red ribbon tied at one end of the bridge.

The video shows that at the very moment a woman delegate cuts the ribbon, the bridge collapses under the weight of the officials.

The video shows that the female official seeking help and security personnel immediately rushing to the spot and take her away from the falling bridge.

The other members of the official delegation were left hanging but fortunately, did not fall to the ground. Youngsters are immediately seen rushing to help the stranded officials.

The incident took place last week, according to iHarare digital publication.
