Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra won the Doha Diamond League 2023 title with a throw of 88.67 metres in the season opening event after his return from injury.
India’s javelin star came up with the winning distance in his very first throw on Friday at the Qatar Sports Club in a star-studded field.
Olympic silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic was placed second with a throw of 88.63m while reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Canada finished third with a best throw of 85.88m. Peters had won the event last year with a massive throw of 93.07m but failed to strike his best form at the event this year.
Neeraj Chopra led the field with his first throw and went in for his second throw in which he hurled the spear to 86.04m. His third attempt fell short at 85.47m while the fourth was a foul. He managed 84.37m and 85.62m in his fifth and sixth throws.
