The club intends to study the needs of the community and focus on those members who are keen to pursue higher education and get jobs.

A trustee of the club has been nominated and her name is A. Dhanshika, who is doing her post-graduation and also working in a government hospital.

Talking to the media, Dhanshika said: “When a person realises they are a transgender, they come out of home due to pressure in their family. In such situations, many of them are not in a position to continue education. We will focus on the education of trans persons, which will get them employment opportunities. Our other objective is helping trans persons secure jobs.”

The club Dhanshika informed had already identified six trans persons who are interested in pursuing higher education. Dhanshika said: “We have contacted higher education institutions in Coimbatore seeking support for our cause. A few colleges have come forward to give admission. Soon, the six would continue higher studies. We would also support non-members of the club.”

This club is the first in Tamil Nadu and the second in the country. The first was set up in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
