Scorpion kick by Cyril Ngonge mesmerises football fans across the world

It was what in the local parlance is aptly described as a “complete paisa vasool” moment of the match with not just the spectators but also those watching it exclaiming ‘Wow what a shot!’. This happened when FC Groningen's Cyril Ngonge scored a spectacular goal with an incredible scorpion kick when his team defeated AZ Alkmaar 2-0 in Eredivisie, the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands.

In an exciting clash at the Euroborg Stadium in Groningen, Ngonge did in front of the home crowd what seemed very casual but is indeed extremely tough. In the 20th minute of the match, he received from winger Mohamed El Hankouri from the left wing a beauty of a curled cross and being a bit in front, Ngonge used his left heel to put it into the goal to the complete amazement and disbelief of the goalkeeper, defender and of course the spectators.

The crowd were into raptures as this was the “paisa vasool” moment as even the commentators struggled to describe the goal.

Despite AZ dominating as statistics showed — AZ's 21 shots as compared to the home team's nine, registering more shots on target, nine, to Groningen's four, 65 per cent ball possession and 11 corners – they lost.

Failing to beat Peter Leeuwenburgh, Groningen's goalkeeper AZ suffered another setback in the 71st minute, when striker Michael de Leeuw doubled the lead for Groningen.
