Pilgrims can now use ropeway to visit 500-year-old Manyamkonda temple in Telangana

The Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation has decided to make the famous Manyamkonda temple in Mahbubnagar more accessible to devotees by installing an Aerial Passenger Ropeway System.

The TSTDC will be responsible for designing, constructing, installing, commissioning, operating and maintaining this system for a period of five years. It will be installed from the base of the temple to the top of the rock near the place of worship.

Apart from making the temple easily accessible to the devotees, the aerial ropeway will also help in developing the place as an eco-tourism zone by offering varied experiences to tourists and pilgrims.

With this facility in place, it is expected that it will attract visitors, encourage tourists to go in for extended stays, provide employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the local people while promoting sustainable tourism. TSTDC will provide a fillip to the region by developing the tourism infrastructure and related facilities.

From the point of view of conservation, the ropeway will help in reducing heavy vehicular movement in and around the temple, which disturbs the flora and fauna of the forest and causes pollution. Being a time-saving, convenient and eco-friendly facility, the ropeway system is bound to increase the popularity of this temple.

The ropeway system will be a mono cable reversible jig back eight-seater cabin system. It will be able to haul 300 persons per hour and its six cabins will be fully enclosed with ventilation and an automatically operated door.

The presiding deity at the Manyamkonda Venkateswara Swamy Temple is Lord Venkateshwara as Swayambhumurthi or self-manifested Lord. Located on the Manikonda Hill, the temple is surrounded by green forests and is at a height of 915 metres giving it a majestic look.

It is said that several renowned sages had meditated in this 500-year-old temple.
