One armed tractor driver of Kunia village ferries three pregnant women to hospital despite flood

<strong>Physical handicap has never deterred the brave ones to help the distressed and proving this is 38-year-old driver Ram Naresh in Uttar Pradesh who helped three pregnant women in dire straits of Kunia and Atta villages. These women living in low-lying villages engulfed with flood waters, were taken by him safely in a tractor-trolley to the hospital for childbirth.</strong></div>

Kunia residents, among them Suman and Shyama on October 24 had labour pains. Their village  situated on the banks of Ramganga river which comes under Mirzapur police station area has, due to recent rains been surrounded by flood waters. With no help expected to reach them from outside, their fellow villager Ram Naresh offered to take them. Despite having lost an arm in an accident, Naresh was courageous enough to drive them down as the women travelled lying on a cot placed in the tractor trolley.</p>

The brave Naresh before the mishap worked as a driver but had to switch to tractor after the unfortunate accident. Confronting flood water during his journey which at times filled the vehicle, Naresh continued undeterred till he reached the hospital.</p>

The very next day, he again ferried another pregnant woman, Gomti, from Atta village in a similar way in the tractor-trolley to the same hospital for the delivery.</p>

The Mirzapur Health Centre in-charge, Dr Adesh Rastogi, disclosed that all the three women delivered babies on Thursday. While Gomti had a baby boy, Suman and Shyama delivered a son and daughter, respectively.</p>
<p>
News of Naresh’s brave effort on both days reached Saurabh Bhatt, the SDM who told the media that his help was greatly appreciated. Further, Bhatt informed that instructions had been issued to the concerned officers to extend the benefits of government schemes for which the women are entitled and also to honour Naresh for his exemplary work.</p>
