An Odia woman in the UK stole the show as she ran a gruelling 42.5 km marathon in Manchester on Sunday attired in a traditional Sambalpuri handloom saree. The 41-year-old Madhusmita Jena Das completed the marathon in 4 hours and 50 minutes.
Sambalpuri sarees are made with traditional craftsmanship of the ‘Bandhakala’, the Tie-dye art reflected in their intricate weaves. In this technique, the threads are first tie-dyed and later woven into a fabric, with the entire process taking many weeks.
