Message in a bottle connects father with daughter after Nine Long Decades!

Little did scuba diver Jennifer Dowker know when she plunged in the water that this time she would find something making her a star of the cyberspace. She found a green bottle with a message in it from 1926 while she went diving recently.

She found the bottle with the message in the Cheboygan River recently.

On opening the bottle she took a few pictures of the note and duly posted them on her Facebook.

Dowker, is the owner of a boat touring company by the name Nautical North Family Adventures. She happened to dive down in the Cheboygan river, located in Michigan, United States with the intention of cleaning the windows located at the bottom of her boat.

Lo and behold, she found the green bottle. The note she found in it was equally surprising. It read: “Will the person who finds this bottle return this paper to George Morrow Cheboygan, Michigan and tell where it was found?”

Like a responsible citizen, Dowker immediately took a few pictures of the note and the bottle and posted them on the official Facebook handle of Nautical North Family Adventures.

Sharing the pictures of the message and the bottle she wrote: “So, look what I found when I was washing windows (and cruising along with the fish)… any Morrows out there know a George Morrow that would've written this circa 1926? COOLEST night diving EVER.”

Going viral

Now started the phase of Dowker becoming the star of the digital space. Her post went crazy viral with over 113 thousand shares and 70,000 likes. Not only that, in the comments section there were more than 6,000 comments, most of which described Dowker’s find as “incredible”.

One comment stated: “This is an incredible find! I’m curious though how it was wrapped to conserve the ink for that long?? So so cool (sic).”

Another user was thrilled about knowing people with the name Morrow commented: “If nothing else, this post has brought together a whole lot of people named Morrow! And that makes me smile (sic).”

But what happened finally to Dowker’s post. Did she manage to zero in on the person who wrote the note? Well, this story has a pleasant ending as Dowker, who shared the post about finding a message in a bottle on June 19, posted an update on the story on June 22 on Facebook.

The person who wrote the note, George Morrow, his daughter Michele Primeau got in touch with her and they connected over a zoom call.

Dowker posted: “Update on the message in a bottle Thanks to the help of all of you wonderful people engaging with the last post we were able to get in contact with George Morrow’s daughter Michele Primeau! What a surreal experience it was to connect over zoom today. We can’t wait to welcome Michele aboard this September Michele told us she would love if we displayed her Father’s note and bottle for all our passengers to see. So this is exactly what we plan to do The name “George Morrow” will live on in the shop of the Yankee Sunshine (sic).”

Dowker shared a from their zoom call with the post.

Primeau, who is 74 years old, reported that she came to know about the note from another woman, who had seen Dowker's post on Facebook.

USA Today quoted Primeau observing an interesting point. She said: “It was also interesting because he threw the letter in the river in November, and his birthday is in November.”

Primeau’s father died in 1995.
