In 2017, Rosemary had lost her sight completely because of optic nerve damage. She underwent treatment in several countries including Israel, China, Germany and South Africa but nothing worked.

Recalling how he came to know about the Ayurveda treatment, Odinga told the media: “We were almost giving up when our friend told us about this institute in India that uses traditional medicine. We were apprehensive at first as we had already tried at a few of the most renowned institutes in the world. But Rosemary had faith and we went ahead.”

Her treatment started in 2019 and after a month she was discharged while medication continued at her home. It was under the guidance of chief physician Dr. N. Narayanan Namboodiri that the treatment was carried out.

Sharing her struggles with blindness, Rosemary had revealed in a media interaction that it was her happiest moment of her life when she saw her children after two years of total blindness. She added that she was happy to let go of the white cane, which had been her mobility aide during her blindness.
