Films Division and Discovery Channel curate special films to celebrate the World Environment Day

<strong>To celebrate the World Environment Day tomorrow (May 5), the Films Division is presenting 'Oasis of Hope', a two-day online festival of films on environment, to be held on May 5 and 6.</strong></p>
<p>
These films chosen by the Films Division represent the theme of the World Environment Day which is ecosystem restoration which aims to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems around the world and every continent. The films to be screened highlight the key words for this year’s celebration which are reimagine, recreate and restore.</p>
<p>
In the two-day festival the films to be screened will give the strong message of reviving the environment and reimagining nature's co-existence by suggesting various ways to restore the inseparable relationship of human being and nature.  The streaming will be done on the Films Division website and on YouTube channel.</p>
<p>
The green package of films include <em>The Jungle Man Loiya</em> (21 mins/Farha Khatun), a film that highlights the story of Loiya Ngamba, a nature lover from a small hilly area in Manipur. For six years, Loiya stayed alone on the hill, building a dense forest, almost from scratch and creating a green space for the local communities. It’s a story of reorienting man’s relationship with nature and building a culture of peaceful coexistence.</p>
<p>
The second films is <em>Living the Natural Way </em>(76 mins/ Sanjib Parasar), a  story about Mishing tribes living on a small Brahmaputra island and how changing climate and environment has shattered and challenged their traditional way of living,</p>
<p>
The 43-minute duration <em>Saalumarada Thimakka – The Green Crusader</em> directed by P. Rajendran features a self-taught environmentalist of Karnataka, having no formal education. Saalumarada Thimakka is considered as a role model for environmentalists all over the world having planted hundreds of roadside trees,</p>
<p>
P. Ellappan-directed 14 minutes film <em>Climate Change</em>, is a film on the perils of global warming and climate change while My Son Neo, the 15 minute film in English directed by S. Shanmuganathan, is a movie that poignantly portrays how a five year old boy grows up amidst natural environment, loving all living beings and setting an example for others.</p>
<p>
The last film on the list <em>Plastic World</em>. This seven-minute documentary is directed by Paushali Ganguli and is an animation film that portrays the vast and arid dystopian landscape of the future, covered in plastic waste and also alerts against the hazardous effects of plastic on human life and environment.</p>

The films will be screened throughout the day on both May 5 and 6.</p>

<strong>Discovery Channel’s five-hour marathon</strong></p>
<p>
The infotainment channel Discovery will be screening a five-hour-long gripping slate of content curated specially for the World Environment Day.</p>
<p>
These films are scheduled tomorrow, May 5 from 12 noon to 5 p.m.</p>

<strong>Wild Karnataka </strong></p>
<p>
Karnataka is the home to some of the richest wild places on the planet and boasts of rich biodiversity, most of which is still unknown to the public. Interestingly, one-quarter of India’s plant and animal species are found here, many of which are still unknown to the people of India.</p>
<p>
The documentary sends a message of hope not just across India but across the whole world. Leading stars have lent their voices to narrate it in different languages, Sir David Attenborough narrated it in English, Rajkumar Rao lent his voice in Hindi, Prakash Raj in Telugu and Tamil, and Rishab Shetty in Kannada.</p>
<p>
<strong>The Story of Plastics </strong></p>
<p>
This captivating documentary majorly focuses on the timeline of the plastic pollution crisis. Exposing the ugly truth behind plastic pollution and the false solution of plastic recycling, the documentary highlights the excessive environmental damage that it causes along with the human rights abuse that occurs throughout its production.</p>

<strong>India 2050 </strong></p>
<p>
This documentary is a forecast into the imaginary future of India if we continue our current path and remain ignorant. It gives us glimpses into what damage climatic changes can bring upon us if we do not take responsible steps towards safeguarding our environment.</p>

<strong>Jeremy Wade's Mighty Rivers – Mighty Ganga</strong></p>
<p>
Jeremy sets out to examine and explore some of the planet’s largest waterways with the same immersive style that made River Monsters a global success. He will be taking viewers to show Ganga, India's mighty river, which is revered by a billion Hindus as a living goddess.</p>
<p>
Jeremy will go on a 1,500 mile mission to investigate the problems first-hand to find out what is being done to save this holy river.</p>
<p>
<strong>Great Global Clean-up </strong></p>
<p>
The show focuses on people around the world who gathered to take part in clean-ups in parks and beaches at an event called the “Great Global Clean-up”. It features Zac Efron and Zach King with some local superstars and people from all over the world who lend a helping hand and clean as much waste as possible with an aim to collect a hundred billion pieces of trash worldwide.</p>
