Emirates Airlines flies giant A-380 plane over iconic Sheikh Zayed road to showcase Dubai Expo 2020

There will be a spectacular performance by the Dubai-based carrier Emirates as it will fly special low-altitude flights over the Sheikh Zayed Road of the city and the site of Expo 2020 Dubai. This was done today and will be repeated on Thursday too.

The performances have been timed between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. local time and are spread across different vantage points of the Sheikh Zayed Road.

Sheikh Zayed Road is one of the city’s main highways and it connects the seven emirates, and around the Expo 2020 site.

Replacing the Emirates’ traditional white and gold paint scheme, the aircraft that will perform is bright blue and has large-scale graphics in vivid green, orange, pink, purple and red. These run across the fuselage and right up to the tail and fin and intertwined with the logo of Expo 2020 which is ring-shaped.

Besides this, the craft has special ‘Dubai Expo’ and ‘Be Part of the Magic’ messages that run across both sides of the A380 fuselage. Cowls on the engine too carry the Expo 2020 Dubai messages and dates of the event.

Also, the Emirates red belly branding – the one which is visible when the aircraft is flying overhead – has been replaced by ‘Dubai Expo’ branding. This is bound to increase the event’s visibility and awareness as it flies to the airline’s A380 network over the course of the next 6 months.

The airline wants people to click pictures and shoot videos of the performance but has cautioned them not to risk themselves in doing so. They have also asked people to not use drones and follow the guidelines prescribed by the General Civil Aviation Authority.

The airline has stated that the flyovers are part of a special project which will be revealed soon.

The Expo 2020 Dubai is the first one to be held in the Middle East and commenced on October 1. There are more than 190 countries participating in this event and is tipped to be the biggest in-person event in the world following the pandemic.

It will continue till March 31, 2022.
